Teva discontinues Phase II emrusolmin trial in multiple system atrophy after futility analysis
Posted on November 2, 2026
Teva Pharmaceuticals will discontinue its Phase II TOPAS-MSA study of emrusolmin in adults with multiple system atrophy following a prespecified interim futility analysis.
The decision was made after an independent data monitoring committee concluded that the study met its predefined futility criterion.
The interim predictive analysis indicated that TOPAS-MSA had a low probability of meeting its primary efficacy endpoint if the trial continued.
Teva emphasised that the finding represents an interim assessment rather than the study’s final efficacy analysis.
No safety concerns were identified during the interim review.
Emrusolmin, also known as TEV-286, is being developed by Teva in partnership with MODAG GmbH.
The TOPAS-MSA study was evaluating the investigational treatment in adults with multiple system atrophy, a progressive neurological disorder.
Teva said it will conduct a comprehensive analysis of data generated from the Phase II study.
The company will also assess available findings from an ongoing open-label extension study of emrusolmin in patients with multiple system atrophy.
The discontinuation decision applies specifically to TOPAS-MSA and does not constitute a final decision on the wider emrusolmin development programme.
Eric Hughes, MD, PhD, Executive Vice President of Global Research and Development and Chief Medical Officer at Teva, said the company will analyse the available results to better understand the findings and determine the potential path forward for emrusolmin.
He also said the data could provide additional insights into multiple system atrophy and the biology of the disease.
Teva will work with investigators at participating sites to follow study protocols as the Phase II trial is brought to an end.
The company plans to share findings from TOPAS-MSA with the scientific community after completing its full analysis.
