Novo Nordisk and AWS join forces in a strategic alliance aimed at speeding up drug discovery through artificial intelligence

Novo Nordisk and Amazon Web Services have announced a strategic alliance aimed at advancing drug discovery and transforming Novo Nordisk’s operations through agentic AI and cloud-based technologies. Central to the arrangement is a co-innovation hub established in London, where engineers and scientists drawn from both organisations are putting AWS AI tools to work alongside Novo Nordisk’s proprietary data and scientific insights, with the aim of compressing the timeline between identifying a drug target and reaching the first human dose.

Selecting AWS as its preferred cloud provider and strategic AI partner, Novo Nordisk is combining its deep therapeutic knowledge across chronic disease with AWS’s industry-leading cloud and AI services, secure and scalable infrastructure, and purpose-built life sciences technologies. The collaboration has already yielded tangible results, among them a reduction in clinical documentation time and productivity gains for more than 25,000 employees across the organisation. Building on a long-standing working relationship, the expanded agreement lays the secure groundwork needed to turn scientific ideas into therapies capable of reaching patients worldwide. Capabilities being deployed include Amazon Bio Discovery and Amazon Bedrock for identifying drug targets, accelerating therapy design, and connecting genomic, imaging, and clinical datasets so that discoveries made in early research can directly inform how clinical trials are structured. Novo Nordisk will also draw on Amazon Bedrock AgentCore to drive operational efficiencies through AI-powered agents.
