Johnson & Johnson introduces MONARCH QUEST 3, the next step forward in robotically assisted bronchoscopy
Posted on August 18, 2026
Johnson & Johnson has recently announced it has received U.S. 510(k) regulatory clearance for MONARCH QUEST 3, the newest software update for the MONARCH Platform. The update reflects the company’s ongoing focus on advancing its robotically assisted bronchoscopy platform, the first of its kind to reach the market, shaped by feedback from clinicians and aimed at giving physicians greater confidence during complex procedures. This marks the fourth update to the MONARCH platform in the past eighteen months, underscoring the company’s continued investment in the technology.
The MONARCH Platform holds the distinction of being the first flexible, robotically assisted bronchoscopy system available. MONARCH QUEST offers continuous visualization throughout a procedure, including navigation toward and biopsy of targets under direct view, a robotically assisted bronchoscope built to give physicians precise, stable control and reach, and navigation and targeting capabilities that adjust for the divergence that can occur between CT imaging and actual patient anatomy. QUEST 3 expands on that foundation, further improving planning, navigation, and targeting to help clinicians better account for CT to body divergence as well as anatomical shifts that can happen mid procedure.
Beyond the new QUEST features, this release also incorporates Polyphonicâ„¢, Johnson & Johnson’s open digital ecosystem. Polyphonic for MONARCH extends surgical intelligence past the procedure itself, allowing clinicians to review case volume data and collaborate with other teams through a shared, centralized video library. It organizes each MONARCH case into a consistent format that clinicians can revisit, making it easier to identify key moments in a procedure and support ongoing learning.
Aleksandra Popovic, PhD, president of MONARCH within Johnson & Johnson’s MedTech division, said being first to market comes with a responsibility to keep innovating. She said MONARCH QUEST 3 represents continued evolution of the platform in close collaboration with clinicians, incorporating artificial intelligence, broader imaging integration, and software improvements aimed at giving physicians greater confidence and precision when treating patients.
