Johnson & Johnson gains CE Mark for ACUVUE OASYS MAX reusable lens

Johnson & Johnson has received CE Marking for ACUVUE OASYS MAX 2 Week, expanding its ACUVUE OASYS MAX range with a reusable contact lens designed to provide comfort and clear vision throughout a two week wear cycle.

The new lens incorporates the company’s proprietary MAX technologies and is expected to become available in selected European countries later in 2026. A wider market introduction is planned during 2027.

Around 140 million people worldwide use contact lenses, and approximately half of them choose reusable products. Comfort remains the leading consideration for contact lens users. At the same time, growing use of digital devices and increased exposure to blue violet light can place greater demands on the eyes and may contribute to reduced visual clarity and symptoms of dryness.

Johnson & Johnson developed ACUVUE OASYS MAX 2 Week to address these changing requirements among reusable lens wearers, particularly those spending significant amounts of time using digital screens.

Jacqueline Henderson, Company Group Chair of Vision at Johnson & Johnson MedTech, said reusable contact lens users should not have to sacrifice either comfort or visual clarity as their daily demands increase. She explained that the new product brings the company’s most advanced ACUVUE technologies to a reusable lens with the aim of maintaining clear vision and comfort throughout the complete two week wearing period.

ACUVUE OASYS MAX 2 Week combines Johnson & Johnson’s Eye Inspired Designs with several MAX technologies intended to support both comfort and visual performance.

Its OptiBlue Light Filter blocks at least 60% of blue violet light, which Johnson & Johnson says represents the highest level among reusable contact lenses.

The lens also incorporates TearStable Technology, which is designed to retain moisture and help the eyes remain comfortable throughout the day.

Another feature is Class 1 UV blocking within each lens, providing additional protection for the eyes from potentially harmful ultraviolet radiation, including exposure from sunlight.

Together, these technologies are designed to support clearer vision across a range of everyday situations, including working with digital screens, spending time outdoors and driving at night.

The product has also been developed to make the transition straightforward for eye care professionals fitting patients who already use ACUVUE OASYS 2 Week lenses. Johnson & Johnson said the same fitting process can be followed without requiring additional appointment time.

Clinical testing found that 99% of participants who were already wearing ACUVUE OASYS 2 Week were successfully refitted with ACUVUE OASYS MAX 2 Week while retaining the same lens power, base curve and diameter.

The latest product broadens the ACUVUE OASYS MAX portfolio by adding an advanced reusable option alongside the company’s existing contact lens offerings.

Johnson & Johnson plans a phased introduction beginning in selected European markets in late 2026. Further expansion is expected across 2027 and 2028, depending on regulatory approvals and individual market readiness.
