Genentech unveils plans to expand manufacturing operations in the United States

Genentech, part of the Roche Group, announced plans to invest approximately $750 million in a new device fill-finish manufacturing facility located on its 75-acre campus in Hillsboro, Oregon. The investment will introduce new end-to-end device filling capabilities at the site and expand its capacity to support the future pipeline of medicines across both Roche and Genentech.

The project is expected to generate 250 high-wage manufacturing positions along with roughly 200 construction jobs in Oregon during the site’s development phase, with commercial operations projected to begin in 2031.

The new facility will handle manufacturing of advanced drug delivery devices, including pre-filled syringes and autoinjectors. These devices are becoming an increasingly important part of how medicines reach patients, offering more convenient options for receiving treatment outside a hospital setting. Built with flexibility in mind, the facility will be able to handle both high- and low-volume device filling across a wide range of products in the Roche and Genentech portfolio, allowing the site to adapt as manufacturing needs shift over time.

The Hillsboro investment follows closely on the heels of Genentech’s recent topping out of its new manufacturing facility in Holly Springs, North Carolina, a site built specifically to support global production of the company’s upcoming metabolic medicines, including next-generation obesity treatments.

Roche and Genentech currently operate 13 manufacturing sites and 15 research and development sites in the U.S., employing approximately 25,000 people across 24 locations in eight states.
