UltraPerformance Convergence Chromatography: A New Category of Separations Science – Waters
Posted on March 21, 2014
Every laboratory has samples that are too complex or take too long to analyze - until now.
UltraPerformance Convergence Chromatography™ [UPC2®], is a powerful chromatographic technique that uses compressed CO2 as the primary mobile phase to leverage the chromatographic principles and selectivity of normal phase chromatography while providing the ease-of-use of reversed-phase LC.
The ACQUITY UPC2™ System is built upon proven UPLC® Technology and allows scientists to address routine and complex separation challenges while delivering reliability, robustness, sensitivity and throughput. Scientists can simplify workflow by combining methods and techniques, with higher throughput and direct injection of organic extracts. Structural similar compounds can be separated like chiral entities, diasteromers, enantiomers, positional isomers, and structural analogs. This is an orthogonal technique by combining CO2/co-solvents and stationary phases to increase separation power complementing LC and GC.
Convergence chromatography uses CO2, cutting solvent usage by volume by 75X and overall cost by nearly 100X in extreme cases. UPC2 is up to 10X faster than normal phase LC and can perform gradient separations with ease. Chiral and achiral separations can be performed on a single UPC2 system. In addition, UPC2 is fully-MS compatible.
Convergence chromatography, a new category in separations science, expands the analytical capabilities of today’s laboratory unlocking possibilities of science.
