Bring single-use technology to microbial fermentation – GE Healthcare Life Sciences
Posted on January 3, 2017
The single-use Xcellerex™ XDR-500 MO fermentor is a 500 L system specifically designed for growth of microbial cultures. The fermentor delivers reliable performance you can trust even under demanding conditions. With a robust design, the system exhibits powerful mass transfer, efficient temperature control, and excellent gas dispersion.
The flexibility of single-use technology helps optimize your operational efficiency by easing initial setup, speeding batch changeover, and improving facility utilization.
The XDR-500 MO fermentor is designed to deliver scalable, reproducible process equivalence to conventional stainless steel fermentors. The system design is based on the same foundational principles as conventional fermentors, applying polymer (plastic) technologies where stainless steel has previously been used, for example, shaft, impellers, and exhaust condenser. To prevent leakage, the impeller is magnetically coupled with no rotating seals. Traditional scaling methodologies based on measures such as tip speed, power per unit volume, and oxygen transfer rate (OTR) can be used. Optical density and dry cell weight targets may be used as performance indicators.
The XDR-500 MO fermentor system is suitable for use in a manner that complies with 21 CFR Part 11 and GAMP™ 5 to support manufacturing in a GMP environment.
